Company Profile: Quality: Inspections

Quality Inspections
Derco has the processes and procedures that give its customers the assurance that the necessary provisions are in place to protect all replacement parts until they are used. From the manufacturer to embodiment at a customer’s facility, all materials are stored in secure facilities or transported by bonded common carriers that meet or exceed FAA and U.S. accepted standards for product control. Qualified technical staff will inspect all new or replacement parts for:

Any obvious physical damage including corrosion
Verification that all shipping material and appropriate plugs and caps are installed properly in order to assure that the part has not been contaminated nor improperly distributed from manufacture to the shop floor
Verification of the part number and model number
If applicable, ensure the appropriate Certificate of Conformity
Conformity of part and paperwork to applicable drawings, prints, or other technical specifications

Identification Process
All assets are labeled, tagged, or otherwise identified in a manner that tracks the parts Original Equipment Manufactuer (OEM), vendor, or government agency (if government property is involved)

General-purpose components of special test equipment are identified in a manner to facilitate removal and reutilization including specialized methods developed to identify Government property.

Derco inspects all goods to the purchase order terms and conditions as well as the customer requirements as detailed in inspection work instructions. Derco’s inspection personnel use calibrated tools, gages, and test equipment. An acceptance stamp on both the packing slip and the part label identifies inspection acceptance. Parts and materials are identified at receipt with tags. The Quality Assurance Inspector notes all discrepancies on receiving documents.

Incoming Inspections
Parts are reviewed to ensure they are free of damage and in compliance with applicable drawings and specifications. Incoming inspections include a review of part condition, dimensional correctness, currency of time sensitive items, and a review of the accuracy and presence of all required documents.

Stock Inspections
Parts placed in inventory are periodically reviewed to ensure they meet prospective customers’ expectations. Specific customer requirements are reviewed during this inspection.

First Article Inspection
Some customers require a “first article” be submitted prior to accepting a full shipment of parts. The first article is confirmation that the manufacturing process is correct and accurate. To assist in this effort, Derco conducts a first article inspection to validate the manufacturer’s work and to identify any discrepancies prior to the part arriving to the customer. During the first article inspection, the inspector reviews the first article documentation, which consists of a 100 percent dimensional report and certifications on chemical and physical processes. This process ensures that the Derco purchase order and customer contract requirements have been met.

Source Inspections
From time to time Derco may request to have a “third party” inspector review the quality of the product at the source. The source inspector will review all flow down documentation including purchase orders, customer contracts, drawings, special instructions, material requirements, and Q-codes. All parts inspected are subject to the terms and conditions outlined on Derco’s purchase orders.
