Derco Repair Services, Inc.:
Engineering Services

Derco Repair Engineering Services provides technical support to the Derco Repair shop departments and Derco Aerospace programs. Engineering Services focuses on new capability development, piece part repairs, obsolescence management support, and technical support. New capability development entails reviewing the applicable technical data to understand the test and tooling requirements for each new unit, then designing equipment to meet those needs.  Piece part repairs entail developing ways of rebuilding worn piece parts back to serviceable limits and can take two paths; for repairs described in the technical manuals, Derco finds qualified sources or it performs source machining and welding in-house by  FAA certified welding specialists.  Derco’s engineering team also maintains shop test equipment and tooling, researches solutions, develops bill of material for new capability units, and implements various EH&S requirements including machine guarding.

Specific Engineering Capabilities by Department
Derco Repair’s shop is comprised of five departments that work on various lines of aircraft components. Derco’s engineering support for each capability is outlined below:

Pneumatics
Derco has developed a comprehensive pneumatic test system and fabricated a universal pneumatic valve test stand with an integral altitude chamber and cooling turbine test stand utilizing multiple test carts. These test systems use computerized data acquisition and controls to create and measure the required test conditions.

Hydraulics
Engineering involvement with these test systems is to design unit-specific adapters and make the necessary modifications to permit testing new capability units. With the constant development of electrical interface boxes and test holder adapters, Derco has the ability to improve the testing of new components.

Electrical / Electromechanical
Derco Repair is the preferred U.S. repair station for Sarma, and Derco handles repairs for the A320, A340, and Dassault Falcon fly-by-wire interface units. Engineering interfaces regularly with OEMs to insure that the impact of all component changes and upgrades are incorporated into the Repair procedures and equipment.  As new models are introduced, engineering works closely with the OEM to build new interface boxes, test fixtures thereby enhancing Derco Repair’s service to our customers.

Fuel System Components / Mechanical / Structural
Engineering provides the day-to-day support to these departments to insure that tolerances and requirements are met.  For QECs, all inspections, repairs and overhauls are accomplished in-house including non-destructive testing and repair of structural components—longerons, cross beams, firewall, and more.
